Tech Pack Development Service for Fashion Brands

A tech pack is the technical document that translates your design into manufacturable specifications. Without a proper tech pack, manufacturers guess at details — fabric weight, construction methods, measurements, label placement. Those guesses lead to wrong samples, wasted money, and frustration. SDF Clothing's tech pack development service produces production-ready tech packs that any garment factory can use to make your design correctly.

What Is a Tech Pack?

A tech pack is a detailed specification document for one garment design. It includes flat sketches, measurements at every key point, fabric specifications, trim requirements, construction details, label placement, and a complete bill of materials (BOM).

Think of a tech pack as the construction blueprint for a building. The architect's vision is the design. The blueprint is what the construction team actually builds from. Without a blueprint, every contractor builds something different.

For garment manufacturing, the tech pack tells the factory exactly what to make. Two factories given the same tech pack should produce nearly identical garments. Two factories given the same design without a tech pack will produce different garments based on their interpretations.

What Goes into a Production-Ready Tech Pack?

  • Front and Back Flat Sketches: Detailed black-and-white drawings of the garment from front and back. Show every seam, pocket, design feature, and construction element. Color-coded variations for different colorways.
  • Detailed Measurements: A measurement chart showing every dimension at every key point — chest, waist, hips, sleeve length, body length, neck opening, hem width, and many others depending on garment type. Measurements specified for the base size (typically Medium) plus grading rules for size scaling.
  • Construction Details and Stitch Types: Specifies which stitches are used at each seam — single needle, double needle, flatlock, coverstitch, etc. Includes seam allowances, stitch density (stitches per inch), and any reinforcement points.
  • Fabric Specification: Fabric type, composition, weight (GSM), color, and any required certifications. References standard fabric names like "180gsm combed cotton single jersey" or specific fabric codes.
  • Trim and Label Specifications: Every trim used: buttons (size, color, material), zippers (length, type, color), drawcords, eyelets, snaps. Label specifications: main label, size label, care label content with placement instructions.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM): Itemized list of every material needed for one garment with quantities. Used by the factory for accurate quoting and material sourcing.
  • Care Instructions: Wash instructions specific to the garment construction and fabric. Required by law in most markets.
  • Packaging Specifications: How garments should be folded, packaged, and labeled for shipment. Polybag specifications and master carton requirements.

Why Brands Need Professional Tech Packs

Without a tech pack:

  • Sample iterations multiply (5-7 instead of 2-3)
  • Sampling cost increases due to extra iterations
  • Manufacturers default to their interpretation of details
  • Fit varies across reorders
  • Quality is inconsistent
  • Manufacturers cannot quote accurately
  • Disputes over what was specified are common

With a professional tech pack:

  • Faster sampling (2-3 iterations is normal)
  • Accurate FOB quoting from manufacturers
  • Consistent fit across reorders
  • Quality is predictable and verifiable
  • Multiple manufacturers can produce the same design
  • Fewer production disputes

For brands serious about scaling, tech packs are not optional — they are the foundation of professional production.

Our Tech Pack Development Process

Step 1

Design brief

You send your design references — sketches, mood boards, photographs, reference garments, or rough hand drawings. Anything that shows what you envision.

Step 2

Initial consultation

We discuss the design with you to understand intent, target customer, fabric preferences, fit philosophy (oversized, regular, slim), and any specific construction requirements.

Step 3

Flat sketch development

Our designers create detailed front and back flat sketches based on your brief. You receive draft sketches for review and revision.

Step 4

Measurement chart development

Based on approved sketches and your fit philosophy, we build the complete measurement chart. We may reference industry standard fits or your specified custom measurements.

Step 5

Construction and BOM details

We specify stitch types, seam constructions, all trims, labels, and fabric requirements. Bill of materials is built showing every component.

Step 6

Care instructions and packaging

Care label content specified per fabric and target market. Packaging specifications added.

Step 7

Tech pack delivery

Complete tech pack delivered as PDF and editable file (Excel or Adobe Illustrator). You can send this to any manufacturer for quoting and sampling.

Step 8

Revisions

Two rounds of revisions included in standard tech pack development. Additional revisions billed at hourly rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the tech pack with other manufacturers?

Yes. Tech packs we develop are your property. You own the design and can use the tech pack with any manufacturer. We build tech packs to industry standards readable by any garment factory globally.

How long does tech pack development take?

Simple knits: 5-7 days. Standard wovens: 7-10 days. Complex outerwear: 14-21 days. Multi-design collections: 3-5 weeks depending on number of styles.

Do I get the editable file or only PDF?

You receive both — PDF for sharing and printing, plus editable file (Adobe Illustrator AI or Excel format depending on tech pack section). You can modify tech packs yourself in future.

Can you develop tech packs from a sample garment?

Yes. Send us a sample garment by courier. We measure and disassemble carefully to create exact tech packs. We then return your sample garment with the completed tech pack.

Do I need a tech pack to start production with SDF?

Not required. We can also sample from sketches and references. But starting with a tech pack speeds up sampling and reduces iterations. For brands going into bulk production with us, we provide tech pack development as part of full-package service.

What if I need changes to the tech pack later?

Two rounds of revisions are included free. Additional changes billed at hourly rate or as a new tech pack version depending on scope.

Getting Started with SDF Clothing — What to Expect

Starting a new manufacturing relationship requires trust, clear communication, and a structured process. SDF Clothing has worked with hundreds of brands across the USA, UK, Australia, and Europe, and we've refined our onboarding process to make it as simple and transparent as possible for new clients.

The first step is always a design brief or tech pack submission. You don't need a finished tech pack to get started — even a rough sketch, a reference garment, or a detailed description is enough for us to provide a ballpark quote and confirm whether your project is a good fit for our factory. From there, we move to formal costing, which includes fabric sourcing, trim selection, and lead time confirmation.

Sampling is the most important phase of any manufacturing project. We produce a pre-production sample for your approval before any bulk fabric is cut. This sample lets you verify fit, construction, fabric quality, and color accuracy before committing to full production. Most clients approve samples within two rounds of revisions. We never proceed to bulk without your written approval.

Bulk production follows a structured quality control process. Our QC team conducts in-line checks during production and a final AQL inspection before packing. You receive a pre-shipment inspection report with photographs and measurements before we release your order for shipping. If anything falls outside the agreed specifications, we address it before the goods leave our factory.

Shipping from Bangladesh to the USA, UK, or Australia takes between 22 and 35 days by sea freight. We prepare all export documentation including commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and bill of lading. For EU shipments, we include the necessary documentation to support duty-free entry under the GSP scheme. Air freight is available for urgent orders and samples.

What Brands Say About Working with SDF Clothing

Our clients value three things above everything else: reliability, communication, and quality consistency. We respond to all enquiries within one business day. We provide weekly production updates during bulk manufacturing. And we back every shipment with our quality guarantee — if a garment doesn't meet the agreed specifications, we make it right.

Whether you're launching your first clothing brand with 300 pieces or scaling an established label with thousands of units per season, SDF Clothing provides the same level of attention and professionalism. Our minimum order quantity of 300 pieces reflects our commitment to supporting brands at every stage of growth, not just large buyers with the leverage to demand low prices.

Ready to start? Submit your design brief through our contact page or request a sample directly. We'll respond with a quote within 48 hours and guide you through every step of the manufacturing process from there.

Why Partner with SDF Clothing?

SDF Clothing is a direct-access garment factory in Bangladesh — not a trading company or buying house. When you work with us, you communicate directly with our production team, receive transparent pricing without agent markup, and maintain full control over your supply chain. Our factory holds GOTS, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, BSCI, WRAP, and ISO 9001 certifications.

Bangladesh is the world's second-largest garment exporter, shipping over $47 billion in apparel annually to USA, UK, EU and Australian markets. Our minimum order of 300 pieces reflects our commitment to supporting brands at every stage of growth — from first collections to established seasonal production runs. We offer full package production covering tech pack development, fabric sourcing, sampling, bulk manufacturing, quality inspection, and export documentation under one roof.

For US brands, sourcing from Bangladesh avoids the Section 301 tariffs that add 25% or more to Chinese imports. For EU brands, Bangladesh's GSP duty-free access delivers lower landed costs compared to most other sourcing destinations. These trade advantages combine with competitive FOB pricing to deliver strong margins for our clients.
